Kiuas Demo Day – What's special in 2020

For Kiuas, the last week of August marks the ending of our flagship Accelerator program as well as the time of the Demo Day – an annual gathering of investors, founders, corporates, and media to witness some of the most promising startups in Finland.
Due to the pandemic, Kiuas Demo Day will – for the first time ever – take place in a virtual format, enabling people from all around the globe to attend the previously-local event. Aside of that, what's special about the event in 2020?
Having watched and been part of numerous low-value, boring, and laggy webinars throughout the spring, we certainly didn't want our Demo Day to end on that path. To produce an event that looks & feels fresh for both the viewers and our presenting startups, we've put a lot of effort into the details and partnered up with Epicenter Helsinki – a community of digital scale-ups, corporates and entrepreneurs.
The startups will be pitching from a single location, resulting in a seamless experience for the viewers.
The pandemic hasn't affected the investors' interest towards our startups – quite the opposite. The virtual format has enabled international VCs to participate, and through some hustling and a bit of luck, we are fortunate to have dozens of top funds from Europe and beyond join the event.
Having only taken questions from the audience at last year's event, we felt that inviting a curated pool of judges to assess the startups is the way to go this time.

With over 30% increase in applications to Kiuas Accelerator from 2019 amid the pandemic, this year's batch of startups is by far the most promising we've had.
To compensate for the absence of physical interaction, we've given every attendee a chance to book 1-on-1 meetings with the startups through our website.
